Sommers-Bausch Observatory is located in the city of Boulder, Colorado, approximately 25 miles northwest of Denver.
From Denver, head north on I-25 and then take US 36 diagonally northwest, past Westminster, Broomfield, Superior/Louisville, and down the hill into the Boulder Valley. US 36 becomes 28th Street, heading north.
From Fort Collins, take I-25 south to the Lyons/Highway 66 exit #243, go 15 miles west to US 36 (N. Foothills Highway) at Lyons, then south 12 miles into Boulder. US 36 becomes 28th Street, heading south.
From Longmont, take The Diagonal, State 119, south until it becomes State 157 Foothills Parkway. Go south on Foothills past Valmont, Pearl, and Arapahoe, and turn west on Colorado Avenue.
From Golden, take State 93 northward past Eldorado Springs into Boulder. The highway becomes Broadway.
From Denver, heading north on 28th Street (US 36), go 1/2 mile beyond the Baseline Road exit to the first stoplight at Colorado Avenue. Turn left (west) on Colorado into the University of Colorado campus.
Southbound on US 36 (28th Street) into Boulder, drive past the downtown Pearl Street turnoff, through Canyon and Arapahoe Avenue, and turn west (right) at the next stoplight at Colorado Avenue, onto the CU campus.
From the Foothills Parkway, State 157, turn west on Colorado Avenue (about 1/2 mile south of Arapahoe Ave., or 1/2 mile north of Baseline Road). Travel west on Colorado about 1 mile and cross 30th Street and then 28th Street, and enter the CU campus.
From Broaday (State Highway 93) travelling north, cross Table Mesa and then Baseline Road. About 1/4 north of Baseline turn east onto Regent Drive into the University of Colorado campus. If you're travelling southbound on Broadway, Regent Drive will be about 1/4 mile beyond Euclid and the UMC Student Union.
Coming onto the campus from the east (Denver, Fort Collins, Longmont) you will enter the CU Campus on Colorado Avenue (heading westward towards Folsom Statium). After leaving 28th Street, turn south (left) at the next stoplight onto Regent Drive. In about 1/8th mile Regent Drive will curve to the right (headed west), and you'll see Fiske Planetarium on your left (south side of the road). Sommers-Bausch Observatory is the building on the hill overlooking Fiske, just to its east of the Planetarium.
Approaching campus from the west side (State Highway 93, Broadway) , turn west onto Regent Drive (about 1/4 mile north of Baseline, or 1/4 mile south of Euclid). Drive 1/8 mile past Regent Hall (on your left, or north side of the road). Kittridge Loop turns right just before Regent Drive bends left, and you are located in front of Fiske Planetarium, with SBO overlooking it on the hill in front of you.
Most of the time, the University permits free public
parking after 5:00 p.m. in several lots in the vicinity of
Sommers-Bausch and Fiske. We recommend
Walk eastward around the south side of Fiske Planetarium until you come to the stairs leading to the Speech Building and Sommers-Bausch Observatory. Front entrance to SBO faces the east.
